"If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be able to give my son Christmas gifts or Thanksgiving dinner," she added.
Project Care helps low-income families that reside within the Marion School District. And despite facing an uncertain future,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the non-profit organization continues to provide assistance to school children and their families as the school year gets under way.
The organization and its store - which sells used clothing, shoes, toys, glass ware, kitchen ware and other items - are housed in portables near . The district wants to remove the portables and is looking at options for relocating Project Care, possibly to another district building.
Despite the uncertainty,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Project Care co-founder said the organization and its volunteers are still focused on helping school children and their families.
"We are going to still continue the best we can," said Purvis who, along with co-founder Beth Woodward,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], started Project Care 14 years ago.
Purvis said Project Care provided back-to-school supplies, shoes and back packs for 261 school children in all grades,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], from elementary to high school. Proceeds from the organization's rummage sales,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], held the first Saturday of each month, are used to cover the costs for the back-to-school supplies,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], shoes and backpacks.
Working with other local organizations and churches, Project Care also provides holiday food baskets for families during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Last year, between 70 and 80 families received Thanksgiving meal baskets.
Project Care also helps with Christmas toy drives, making Christmas special for 330 children who otherwise would not have had a gift under the tree.

"If you can find clothes that are of good quality and good prices, it saves you money," she said. "They always help you when you need something in particular, like jeans.
